What is a Birth Doula?

A birth doula is a person who is experienced and skilled in birth.

For centuries birthing people throughout the world have given birth with emotional and physical support of other experienced folks from within their communities. Evidence-based research supports that birthing people with continuous labor support tend to have more memorable, satisfying birth experiences.

As a committed birth doula, my role is to provide educational, physical and emotional support to you and your partner so you can make your own best decisions for the birth of your child. The power of relaxation and meditation has been known to ease the discomfort of labor and birth. My education includes training and experience in various methods, but I believe the best method is the one that comes naturally to the birthing person. I follow your lead and offer other hands-on comfort measures such as the use of the Mexican rebozo, use of essential oils, and massage when necessary or requested.

My Birth Doula Package Includes:

  • A complimentary meeting to see if we are a good match for each other. I like to think of my clients as sisters in motherhood, and this initial meeting will help us establish that relationship. If we are not a match for each other I will happily refer you to some of  my trusted peers in the area that I feel you would connect with.

  • One prenatal home visit (unless 2 are necessary or requested) to get to know the expectant family and discuss preferences and options.

  • Free referrals for all of your prenatal and post partum needs.

  • Available 24/7  for phone consultation and questions.

  • Access to my lending library.

  • Continuous labor support from onset of active labor until a few hours after baby is born. This includes help with breathing techniques, massage, aromatherapy, and anything else the laboring mother needs to feel comfortable.

  • Help establishing latch-on and nursing after  baby is born.

  • Postpartum follow-up at your home within first weeks of baby's life

Birth Doula Fees

Birth doula fees are based on a sliding scale depending on location of the client's home and/or place of birth. Contact me for more information or to discuss payment options.

(50% of the fee is to be paid at the time of the signing of our contract and agreement to work together, the rest can be paid before 36 weeks of gestation-this is so that once labor starts we do not have to worry or talk about business)
